Enjoy being a make-up addict without spending a fortune

Makeup shopping can be addicting, wonderful, expensive, and at times difficult. How can you decide between the millions of products out there? How do you stop yourself from spending hundreds when you only meant to take a peak at the latest products? Gabi Bouvier has a few shopping tips to try and help everyone make their beauty shopping more productive!

Always check the product on yourself, preferably in person...

Everyone is unique in their own fabulous way, and as wonderful as this may be, it does mean that mirroring models can be quite difficult. Everyone has different skin colors, face shapes, eye shapes etc. Therefore, not everyone is going to look the same using one product. The people chosen to model a certain product are chosen because they are going to look good with that particular makeup style, and in no small part due to Photoshopping. So don't necessarily try to recreate the advertised looks! Take the time to experiment in store with the makeup; make sure the foundation color matches your skin, that a particular lipstick looks good on you.

Check out sites for dupes and discounts...

There is a great Instagram account called "DupeThat" that not only compares products to show you cheaper dupes for expensive items, but also offers discount codes for brands they are in partnership with. Sites and accounts like this one are fabulous if you are on a budget. Dupes won't be perfect replicas, but they can still be great products that will save you a bit of cash.

Know what you want...

Whether you are shopping online or in a store, sometimes the hardest part is seeing all the items on display, and wanting to get everything! It is hard not to pile your basket high with lipsticks, palettes and accessories. So to avoid too much indecision later, go in with an understanding of what you are looking for at that particular moment. You can still mark something for future reference, you just don't necessarily have to buy it immediately.

 ...and what you will use...

It is also a good idea to know what you are going to use. Sure, every new color of liquid lipstick looks fabulous, but are you really going to use the dark green often enough to justify the purchase? If yes, then go for it! Rock that color! But if not, step back and take a moment. Not everyone has the same makeup style, so don't feel pressured to follow a certain trend. Stay true to yourself, and buy the products that you know you are going to enjoy using. Don't waste your money on something that is just going to sit on your shelf and expire.

Look for DIYs...

There is so much cool stuff out there, how do you know what you really need? Take, for example, e.l.f.'s Makeup Remover Pen. Seems like a great product and it certainly does have its uses; but a Q-tip dipped in makeup remover will do the exact same thing. It is also super easy to make lip scrubs at home, so why buy the expensive stuff? Unless you know a product is going to do you real good, see if you can find a simpler solution.
